OUTREACH: Reaching out to people in need in a spirit of love. A place to feed the hungry, house the homeless, minister to alcoholics and drug addicted, and women and families with children.
MISSION VERSE: John 3:16 – “For God so loved the world, that he gave His
only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
BIOSKETCH: Rev. Ben Walker, executive director of Haven of Rest Ministries, worked for 15 years as an industrial engineer before giving up his management level position to prepare for full-time Christian service. A native of the Detroit, Michigan area and a veteran of the Vietnam War, Rev. Walker graduated cum laude from William Tyndale College in 1981 with a Bachelor of Theology degree. During his senior year, he was selected as a member of “Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.” For six years, Rev. Walker served as director of the Christian Service Brigade’s Ohio Valley region. He joined Haven of Rest in 1987 as administrator of its men’s division and was instrumental in developing an effective rehabilitation program for homeless, indigent and chemically-dependent men. In 1994, he was named director of operations. He assumed the position of executive director on July 1, 2003. Rev. Walker and his wife, Kathy, are members of the Community Church of Portage Lakes. They have two grown children and four grandchildren.
